This is one of the walks in the book 'Exploring the Elizabeth Line' by Jeff Lock. It starts at Custom House station then goes via Beckton District Park up the Greenway which it follows to Stratford largely following the route of the Capital Ring.

I arrived at Custom House station around 11am and then made my way through residential streets into Cundy Park.

Then King George V Park. Here is Newham City Farm which closed in 2022 with the gates firmly locked but there are plans to reopen it.

A stretch of pleasant country paths before reaching the entrance to Beckton District Park where I joined the route of the Capital Ring.

Beckton District Park is quite large and in two sections. A carved bird appears off in the woodland.

Into the northern section and a children's playground.

The cafe has been closed for several years. Then I reached the large lake, something that the Capital Ring bypasses.

The lake is quite impressive with many ducks, the walk goes more or less right round it. Some work is going on behind fencing at the point where I turned off.

Peace is disturbed for a few minutes as I crossed the A13 via a large footbridge. Then up to the Greenway, a walking path over the Northern Outflow Sewer.

I soon reached Greenway Community Orchard, set up by Newham University Hospital and being a Thursday there was a group sat round a table on the regular gardening sessions.

The Greenway continues for some way but then the first signs of the current works appears. This section is currently open but closes in October for several years while they repair the bridges carrying the sewer over roads and the railway.

At Manor Road I reached where the Greenway is currently closed and had to follow the diversion.

The sewer is carried via large pipes under the road bridge,The diversion is not particularly pleasant and although partly through residential estates there is a nasty right hand turn for cyclists.

The later part of the diversion is along a busy road with narrow pavements.

Back on the Greenway for a while. I seeemed to be the only person on this stretch. More works near Stratford but these were passable.

Reaching Stratford High Street there are major works on the central reservation with the pedestrian crossing closed. I had to divert to the next set of lights to cross this road.

A short stretch of the Greenway before turning off and heading along the Waterworks River towards Olympic Park.

Back in the Olympic Park by the stadium then towards the Westfield Shopping Centre and Stratford station where I made my way back to Waterloo and hom
