This is one of the walks in the book 'Exploring the Elizabeth Line' by Jeff Lock and is a pleasant walk through the London streets between Tottenham Court Road and Farringdon stations. Much of this was familiar ground but introduced me to London Fields and Temple areas with their ornate architecture. 3.5 miles in length so not that demanding.
I was meant to exit Tottenham Court Road station from its new western exit in Dean Street but missed the signage and ended up in Charing Cross Road so made my way along Oxford Street to Soho Square. Across the square then passing the tiny church of St. Barnabas to pick up the route.
Into the churchyard of St Giles in the Fields and the adjacent Phoenix Garden.
More London streets then the Seven Dials monument. Approaching Covent Garden was the first of the Easter Eggs set up in the area which was generating great interest.
Covent Garden and the adjacent Royal Opera House. The walk did not venure inside Covent Garden.
Lincoln's Inn Fields which I have passed through on my earlier walks.
Adjacent to the Fields is the Inn itself, one of four Inns of Court in London. The impressive New Square Lawn with its fountain and the splendid entrance gate.
The buildings are certainly magnificent.
The chapel and its vaulted area below the chapel itself.
Another view of New Square Lawn and another grand entrance through which I left the Inn itself.
The Strand is briefly crossed with the Temple Bar memorial and the Royal Courts of Justice.
Now into the Temple area with Fountain Court and Garden Court. The Temple is quite extensive and in two sections with a short foray on to Victoria Embankment in between.
Temple Church, consecrated in 1185. Then out of the Temple. In Gough Square is a memorial to Hodge, Dr Johnson's cat.
Nearby is Dr Johnson's House, home of the author Samuel Johnson which houses a museum. The museum though was closed for refurbishment. From here it was a short walk to Farringdon station. I lunched in the nearby Wetherspoons before making my way home.
