This series of walks for 2026 is from the book Beyond the End of the Line by Jeff Lock. Each walk starts at the terminus station of London's eight underground lines. This one starts at Wimbledon on the District line and crosses Wimbledon Common and Putney Heath to end at Putney station.
The walk starts at Wimbledon station in the centre of the town, then follows a long climb up Wimbledon hill.

Reaching Wimbledon village with loads of shops Wimbledon Common is reached at the war memorial.
Pleasant woodland on the common.
A lengthy stretch of woodland path, with a bridleway to the right and footpath on the left.

Skirting the golf course Wimbledon Windmill is reached, with cafe and other facilities around. The windmill is only open on Sunday afternoons.

More pleasant woodland on the northern part of the common.
A subway under the A3 takes me into Putney Heath for the second part of the walk.
A pleasant pond is reached. The path now skirts round Putney Village and heads to the north eastern corner of the heath.
A cricket pitch and practice nets is crossed and after more woodland the heath is exited. Here I lunched at the adjacent Green Man. Rather than following the busy Putney Hill road down to Putney station I decided to catch the bus to Clapham Junction where I finished my day and headed home.
