This series of walks for 2026 is from the book Beyond the End of the Line by Jeff Lock. Each walk starts at the terminus station of London's eight underground lines. This one starts at Brixton on the Victoria line and explores the local area and Brockwell Park to finish at Herne Hill station. Much of this was familiar but I had not been to the windmill before.
The walk starts at Brixton tube station and the bustle of the centre.

Then into Windrush Square followed by St Matthew's gardens and the church.
Rush Common gives a short respite from walking along the main Brixton Hill road.
Turning off the road into Windmill Gardens and Brixton Windmill, built in 1861. Now owned by London County Council it has been restored and produces grain. Open at times but today all closed.

After another section of road walking Brockwell Park is entered, a pleasant area of parkland.

A swan showing off on the large lakes.
The walled garden is particularly pleasant.
Brockwell Hall, built in 1811 for John Blades, a wealthy glass maker. Good views of London from here.
The Tritton Clock, a miniature Big Ben, was installed in 1897 by the hall. Then down the hill towards Herne Hill station where I caught the train back to Victoria and lunched in the adjacent Shakespeare inn before heading home.
