This series of walks for 2026 is from the book Beyond the End of the Line by Jeff Lock. Each walk starts at the terminus station of London's eight underground lines. This one starts at Edgware on the Northern line and explores the Mill Hill area to finish at Mill Hill East station.
The walk starts at Edgware tube station, a long way from central London and two changes on the way. It soon leaves the bustle of the centre and enters a small park.
Dean Brook is crossed than the entrance to the disused Edgware to Finsbury Park railway is passed. This is only open at weekends but I will walk another section later on.
After a bit of woodland and some local roads the Meads is entered.
The path for a while runs parallel to Burnt Oak Brook.
Out of the Meads and into Lyndhurst Park, a large open area.
A stretch of busy road walking which takes me under the M1. Aftr that I entered Mill Hill Park which is in two sections with a road between them.
The second section is busier and there are tennis courts.
A bit more of Mill Hill Park then the route enters Arrande Open Space, a mixture of meadows and woodland.
I had a bit of time to explore this because I got lost and saw parts of it twice due to confusind directions.
I enventually found the right exit with steep steps up to the road.
Now I drop down to another section of the disused railway line which passes under a large road bridge. The railway line is now nothing more than a woodland path.
The path along the railway was around 400m. There should have been another bridge at the far end but it seems that has now been removed with a steep gravel incline to the end. A short walk along the road brought me to Mill End East station, itself once a station on that railway line but now a spur off the Northern line. A short wait for the next train then another long trek back to Waterloo where I lunched at the Wetherspoons.
