This is one of the walks in the book 'Exploring the Elizabeth Line' by Jeff Lock. It follows the River Brent, Grand Union Canal and River Thames from Hanwell station to Richmond following the path of Captital Ring sections 7 and 8. Very familiar ground.

I arrived at Hanwell at 11am and was soon into countryside and down to Brunel's Wharncliffe viaduct.

Then along the River Brent. The path under Hanwell Bridge looked a bit muddy so I crossed the busy road via the alternative route. A couple of large trees had blocked the path which took a little care in negotiating.

Now down to the Grand Union canal which was followed for several miles.

One of the places where the river and canal join with an impressive weir. Then Isleworth Lock.

The canal is crossed and continues on the right hand bank. The M4 looms up opposite.

The walk along the canal ends at Brentford Lock. After a short walk along the busy London Road Syon Park is entered which has a large garden centre. I decided to stop here for lunch.

Syon House, open to visitors during the summer months. Across the park to the exit.

The Thames is reached at Isleworth and a short walk through the town takes me across the Duke of Northumberland's river.

Back on the Thames which is followed down to Richmond Lock and its bridge which is crossed.

Twickenham Bridge and a view across the Old Deer Park. Then the river is left and crossing Richmond Green I returned to the station and home.
